What are BC and DIA values?

It is crucial that you always know exactly which contact lenses are suitable for your needs. In addition to the dioptric power (dpt or also called PWR), it is also important to consider the base curve and the diameter of the contact lenses.

What are BC and DIA values?

BC (Base Curve): The base curve, often expressed in millimeters, determines how the contact lenses adapt to the curvature of your eye. It can also be described as flat, medium or steep. The base curve usually varies between 8 and 10 millimeters.

DIA (Diameter) : The diameter is of great importance and should perfectly match the size of your eyes to ensure a clear view. It is given in millimeters and should match the width of your eyes. Soft contact lenses are usually larger in diameter, 13 to 15 millimeters, compared to hard lenses, which are 9 to 10 millimeters in diameter.

PWR/SPH (Power): This is an extremely important specification of contact lenses as it helps you correct whether you are nearsighted (indicated with a minus sign) or farsighted (indicated with a plus sign). The sign is followed by a number indicating the required vision correction. This number usually starts at 0 and increases in increments of 0.25 diopters.
